Trans Lawyer’s Outrageous Attire in Seattle Courtroom Sparks Controversy

A transgender attorney’s outrageous attire in a Seattle courtroom Thursday morning has sparked criticism on social media, with commenters calling it “a mockery of women” and “degeneracy at its finest.”

Stephanie Mueller, 70,  appeared in court sporting a tight, low-cut blue shirt that showcased the lawyer’s surgically enhanced or prosthetic breasts with bulging nipples. Mueller paired the inappropriate top with skin-tight black leather pants and boots. In the style of a drag queen performer, Mueller also wore an excessive amount of “after 5:00” makeup that included dark eyeshadow, fake eyelashes, and hot pink lipstick that was slathered on well over the perimeters of his lips. He topped the bizarre ensemble off with giant bright-yellow hoop earrings.

The transvestite was in court to defend one of six left-wing agitators who are facing charges for disrupting a Seattle City Council meeting on February 27. The agitators had disrupted the meeting to demand that the city fund temporary housing for illegal immigrants who are facing eviction. All six were charged with first-degree criminal trespassing and one was also charged with obstruction. Mueller’s client, Iris Boardman, is facing a first-degree criminal trespassing charge.

Seattle journalist Jonathan Choe shared a video from their arraignments in Municipal Court Thursday. He posted a shorter video featuring his interview with Mueller on Friday “due to popular demand.”

Online commenters noted that Mueller’s get up was reminiscent of Ontario high school shop teacher Kayla Lemieux, who became infamous after photos emerged online of him wearing giant prosthetic breasts with bulging nipples in front of the students.

“This is woman face and it makes a mockery of women. All of us should be pissed off!” one woman commented on X.

“This is beyond belief. Degeneracy at its finest,” another person wrote.

Many commenters expressed disbelief that such attire was allowed in the courtroom.

“I cannot believe a judge would allow any woman, much less some guy who dresses in drag, to appear in court like that,” wrote one commenter on X. “It is unprofessional and inappropriate.”

“If an actual woman dressed like this in court, she would be reprimanded by the judge and fired by her employer,” another person said.

California attorney Laura Powell argued that Mueller could be in violation of legal ethics rules.

“As a female attorney, my appearance is expected to conform to certain standards in court. I put my preferences aside because, like it or not, my choices affect my clients, and my duty to my clients is paramount,” Powell wrote on X. “This lawyer is arguably violating legal ethics here.”

The City of Seattle mandates that lawyers wear “respectful business or office attire” during courtroom appearances.

A U.S. congressman even weighed in. “Stephanie seems like a nice guy,” wrote Rep. Mike Collins (R-Ga.).

Choe spoke briefly with Mueller outside the courtroom following the hearing. The lawyer told the journalist that his client “innocent, of course.”

“My client has pleaded not guilty and she is not guilty — how about that?” Mueller said.

According to the New York Post, Mueller has been a public defender for over 20 years and claims to be “the only openly transgendered woman trial attorney in Washington state.”

“Since I came out as an openly transgendered attorney I bring diversity to the practice of a law and I am a role model for the transgendered community,” he wrote in a 2016 crowdfunding page titled “Stephanie’s Public Defense Fund.”

“Additionally, I am also a distinctive and active voice for the civil rights of all with a particular awareness for transgender rights,” Mueller, who transitioned in 2012, added.

The now defunct page was set up to raise money for Mueller to buy an “economical car” so he could continue working as a lawyer.
