Following the New York Police Department’s decision to disband its plainclothes anti-crime division, shootings in the city have more than doubled, as reported by Breitbart.
During the 7-day period from June 15th to June 22nd, there were 28 shootings in the city, with 38 total victims. By contrast, there were only 12 shootings during the exact same timeframe in 2019.
The NYPD’s decision to disband the roughly 600-strong anticrime unit came following the far-left’s push for a nationwide defunding and abolition of police departments. New York City remains one of the hotbeds of violence by far-left groups including Antifa and Black Lives Matter.
There have been similar increases in homicides in other cities across America over the last month, including Los Angeles and Chicago. Adding to the chaos in New York is the continuation of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s (D-N.Y.) policy of releasing thousands of prisoners due to fears of the spread of coronavirus in prisons, which has led to many prisoners being rearrested shortly after their release.
