The campaign of Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) has paid $56,000 to her daughter Karen for her work on the congresswoman’s 2018 campaign, the Washington Free Beacon reports.
During the 2018 election, Karen Waters ran a “slate mailer operation,” in which she coordinated the mailing of campaign materials that listed many of the endorsements that Congresswoman Waters had received for her re-election bid. Financial records show that the campaign was approximately $183,000 in debt to Karen, and remains roughly $52,000 in the red.
This payment comes even as other debts accrued by the Waters campaign, including security fees and travel expenses, remain unpaid. The campaign’s overall debt currently stands at over $100,000, of which half is the $52,000 currently owed to her daughter.
