An illegal alien from Lebanon who was set to start his freshman year has been deported, as The Harvard Crimson reports.
The illegal in question, 17-year-old Ismail Ajjawi, had his visa revoked shortly after arriving at Boston Logan International Airport. Ajjawi claims, without evidence, that he spent “eight hours” being interrogated by immigration officials before being ordered to return to Lebanon.
Harvard University has since come out in support of Ajjawi, with spokesperson Jonathan Swain saying in an email that “the University is working closely with the student’s family and appropriate authorities to resolve this matter so that he can join his classmates in the coming days.”
This is the latest instance of the nation’s most prestigious university becoming involved in the national debate on immigration. Harvard’s President Lawrence Bacow had previously spoken out against the Trump Administration’s travel ban, which had led to two graduate students being barred from entering the United States.
