Dem Lawmaker Refers to Deadly Ambush Terror Attack Against National Guard Soldiers in DC as ‘Unfortunate Accident’

A Democrat congressman on Thursday referred to last month’s ambush terrorist attack against two West Virginia National Guard soldiers in Washington D.C. as an “unfortunate accident.”
Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) made the inappropriate remark to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem during a House Homeland Security Committee hearing that began at 10 a.m. EST.

Noem testified alongside National Counterterrorism Center (NCC) Director Joe Kent and FBI National Security Branch Operations (NSB) Director Michael Glasheen, with the session focused heavily on the Trump administration’s immigration policies.  Noem was also questioned about the administration’s plan to expand its travel ban to over 30 countries after Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal murdered National Guard specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, and critically wounded Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, 24, in an ambush-style attack on November 26, using a .357 Smith & Wesson revolver.

Addressing Noem, Rep. Thompson, the ranking Democrat on the committee and former Chair of the House Select J6 Committee,  referenced “that unfortunate accident that occurred with the National Guard,” before she interrupted him.

“You think that was an unfortunate accident?” Noem asked incredulously. “It was a terrorist attack.”

“Wait, wait,” Thompson replied defensively. “I’ll get it straight.”

Noem added, “He shot our National Guardsman in the head.”

Miffed, Thompson then appealed to Committee Chairman Andrew Garbarino (R-N.Y.) to make Noem let him ask his question.

“Mr. Chairman, will you direct the witness to allow me to ask my question?” he said, adding the deadly attack was “an unfortunate situation.” He went on to assail her for blaming the attack “solely on Joe Biden.”

Thompson then tried to establish that the Trump administration shared the blame because it approved the suspect’s asylum application.

“The asylum application was put into place by the rules established by the Biden administration,” Noem argued back. “The asylum application moved forward under all of the information and vetting processes that were put in place under the Biden administration and that’s when the vetting happened.”

She also pointed out that every asylum seeker is “supposed to have a check-in every year and the Biden administration failed to do that.”

Thompson tried to interrupt Noem several times as she was making these points.

The DHS Secretary noted that President Trump has since strengthened the vetting procedures.

Kent further explained that the shooter “was vetted to serve as a soldier in Afghanistan and that vetting standard was used by the Biden administration as a ruse to bring him here.” He said the suspect would never have been allowed into the country had “we followed the standard operating procedures for Special Immigrant visas.”

“That’s on Joe Biden,” Kent declared.

When Thompson’s time expired, Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) registered his disgust with the Mississippi Democrat’s characterization of the shooting.

“Point of order, Mr. Chairman,” Ogle said. “That was a murder that took place in D.C. It was not an unfortunate incident,” he seethed, calling Thompson’s comments “effing disrespectful!”

Ogles added that he “expected better” of Thompson.

Garbarino, ruled the point of order invalid.

Later on in the hearing Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) urged Noem to resign due to her “incompetence.”

“I am sick of your lies. The American people are sick of this lies. The American people demand truth,” he declared.

“America is very happy that, finally, they have a president in the White House that gets up every day to keep them safe,” Noem responded dryly.

“Madam Secretary, your incompetence, your inability to truthfully carry out your duties as secretary of Homeland Security, if you’re not fired, will you resign?” he asked.

“I will consider your asking me to resign as an endorsement of my work,” Noem fired back.

Thanedar announced on Tuesday that he has introduced articles of impeachment against Secretary of War Pete Hegseth for “murder” and “conspiracy to murder” over a controversial military strike against a drug boat in the Caribbean.

But the Democrats’ “Double Tap” hoax unraveled last week.

Hegseth was accused of violating international laws of war by allegedly ordering a second “double tap” strike against a drug-trafficking vessel to finish off two survivors. It turns out, however,  Adm. Frank “Mitch” Bradley ordered the second strike in accordance with a Pentagon contingency plan for dealing with survivors considered ‘still in the fight.’
