On Friday, a survey was released by a real estate company revealing some of the drastic measures Americans have been taking in order to continue affording their current quality of life under Joe Biden’s policies.
Daily Caller reports that the survey, conducted by Redfin, shows that one in five American homeowners and renters are skipping entire meals in order to save money. The report also shows that median asking rental prices rose in the last three years since Biden took office, from less than $1,700 in January of 2021 to over $2,000 in February of this year.
In the same poll, 20.7% of Americans reported working extra hours, while 20.6% said they have sold personal belongings. Over one in six report reaching into some of their retirement savings before retiring, while 15.6% have said that they are putting off medical care in order to be able to afford housing payments.
As of February of 2024, the median household in the United States earned approximately $30,000 less than the amount needed to afford a median home. Prior to Biden taking power, the median household earned more than enough to afford the median home, with several thousand dollars in surplus.
According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the median home in the United States cost approximately $417,700 in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Additionally, the Census Bureau reports that the overall number of new homes being built in the United States has declined between 2022 and 2023. Major contributing factors include the struggling housing market, as well as construction workers being forced to engage in “green” construction projects propped up by the Biden Administration.
The economy remains one of the issues on which Biden polls the worst with American voters. A RealClearPolitics aggregation of polls, as of April 6th, shows that 57.8% of Americans disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy. Conversely, a poll from CBS News in March showed 68% of Americans approving of the economy under President Donald Trump, who is running against Biden for a second, non-consecutive term in this year’s November election.
