Why Mike Pence Is No Hero

Like many people, I watched the Republican presidential debate on Aug. 23. Without Donald Trump, it lacked some fire power, but it was enlightening, nevertheless. Some stood […]

  1. Pence is no hero because his Dear Colleague letter never addressed the most reasonable part of the Eastman memo, tabling the count for 7 days and ordering the disputed electoral slates back to the legislatures of those 7 States for their decision on their election procedures. He ignored it. The presiding officer of any session of Congress has the power to do that if he also has the power to count the votes in the certificates.

Also, a lot of State republicans were not heroes. Some like Kemp had vested interests in protecting their voting system changes from criticism. Others happily took the cover of “no evidence” to do nothing and take the safe route. Election integrity is the most important attribute of our republic. A large segment of the population smelled a rat even before the election occurred. The most vehement of those groups were already preparing to cause problems long before January 6th. The refusal of certain leaders to make courageous decisions and take action at that time was very disappointing. We need more than performance artists and crisis actors. Too many Republican leaders moistened their fingers and held them in the wind before deciding which way to jump on that important issue. Although I am not sure whether Trump is the best candidate for 2024, I am certain about many people in that field who are not better options that DJT. And Pence is one of them.

  2. I’ve broached some of what’s in Mr. Hopkins’ article with Trump Haters and at the end of the day none of this matters. Pence slayed Trump and that’s all that matters to them. This is most unfortunate because in this day of the electorate being split right down the middle and Democrats having perfected their Cheat Machine I think these people have thrown away a valuable tool in their shortsightedness.
