Supreme Court Overturns Roe v. Wade, Ending 50 Years of Bad Law

In a 6-3 decision, the Supreme Court, as expected on Friday, overturned Roe V. Wade, leaving the issue of abortion to the states to decide.

“The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives,” the opinion, written by Justice Samuel Alito, states.

The court also overturned Casey v. Planned Parenthood, which declared that restrictions were allowed as long as there was not an “undue burden.”

“Abortion presents a profound moral question,” Alito wrote. “The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. The Court overrules those decisions and returns that authority to the people and their elected representatives.”

Clarence Thomas, concurring, wrote: “in future cases, we should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell.”

Pro-lifer demonstrators outside the Supreme Court erupted in cheers when the decision was handed down.

An enraged leftist chanted “illegitimate!” through a bullhorn.

“Jane’s Revenge,” a left-wing terrorist group promised a “night of rage” in the event the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

In a statement issued late last month, the group asked “for courageous hearts to come out after dark.”

Whoever you are and wherever you are, we are asking for you to do what you can to make your anger known.

We have selected a time of 8pm for actions nationwide to begin, but know that this is a general guideline. There may be other considerations involved in planning time and place. We do not claim to speak for every community or crew. We are simply calling out to you. And we hope you answer our cries.

To the cis male allies who would be interested in joining us in the streets, we say: you are certainly welcome, but you must use your privilege to shield and support us in a way that also enables us to get angry. Do not police us. Do not tell us what is and isn’t appropriate. But do aid us when we are in need.

“We need the state to feel our full wrath,” the group wrote. We need to express this madness fully and with ferocity. We need to quit containing ourselves. We need them to be afraid of us.”

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who claims to be “very Catholic,” but has been barred from receiving Communion in her own district, put out a scathing statement Friday decrying the decision:

“Today, the Republican-controlled Supreme Court has achieved the GOP’s dark and extreme goal of ripping away women’s right to make their own reproductive health decisions. Because of Donald Trump, Mitch McConnell, the Republican Party and their supermajority on the Supreme Court, American women today have less freedom than their mothers.

“With Roe now out of their way, radical Republicans are charging ahead with their crusade to criminalize health freedom. In the Congress, Republicans are plotting a nationwide abortion ban. In the states, Republicans want to arrest doctors for offering reproductive care and women for terminating a pregnancy. GOP extremists are even threatening to criminalize contraception, as well as in-vitro fertilization and post-miscarriage care.

“A woman’s fundamental health decisions are her own to make, in consultation with her doctor and her loved ones – not to be dictated by far-right politicians. While Republicans seek to punish and control women, Democrats will keep fighting ferociously to enshrine Roe v. Wade into law.

“This cruel ruling is outrageous and heart-wrenching. But make no mistake: the rights of women and all Americans are on the ballot this November.”

Update:

Joe Biden’s remarks on the decision:

Former President Trump called the decision the “biggest WIN for LIFE in a generation,” in a statement released Friday afternoon:

Today’s decision, which is the biggest WIN for LIFE in a generation, along with other decisions that have been announced recently, were only made possible because I delivered everything as promised, including nominating and getting three highly respected and strong Constitutionalists confirmed to the United States Supreme Court. It was my great honor to do so! I did not cave to the Radical Left Democrats, their partners in the Fake News Media, or the RINOs who are likewise the true, but silent, enemy of the people. These major Victories prove that even though the Radical Left is doing everything in their power to destroy our Country, your Rights are being protected, the Country is being defended, and there is still hope and time to Save America! I will never stop fighting for the Great People of our Nation!

Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) called on the Department of Justice to immediately announce a “zero tolerance policy” for left-wing violence:

It begins …

Missouri has become the first state to outlaw abortion.

The conservative-dominated court overturned the landmark 1973 "Roe v Wade" decision that enshrined a woman's right to an abortion and said individual states can permit or restrict the procedure themselves.
