The 13 Percent National Anthem?

PBS stands for Public Broadcasting System. We pay for it. Our tax dollars fund it through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the Department of Education, and others, which keep its left-wing executives extremely well paid.

On July 4, which most Americans still regard as Independence Day—a day to celebrate, ever since the very first fireworks display to mark America’s birth in 1777—the Public Broadcasting System played to a small sliver of 13 percent of the country who are black. On a day when Americans come together to celebrate our country, PBS chose to divide.

How?

America’s taxpayer-funded Public Broadcasting System chose to air Vanessa Williams singing “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” a song some insist is the “black national anthem.”

What is this, a separate national anthem based on race? Are we going back to a cultural form of Jim Crow, PBS? Many Americans noticed and were not pleased. Most black Americans believe “The Star-Spangled Banner” is America’s National Anthem. Columnist and comedian Tim Young called PBS’s decision what it is:

Republican congressional candidate Lavern Spicer called PBS out for being divisive, too.

Why did PBS do this now, when America needs to be united as we recover from COVID and we face a rising threat from China?

We know why. America has been subjected to a moral panic for over a year now. The death of fentanyl addict George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis unleashed an orgy of America hate. Our cities burned as Democrats defunded police and chose to let people suffer and die. Despite the fact that there’s no evidence his death had anything to do with race—it wasn’t even introduced as a factor in Derek Chauvin’s trial—race became a cudgel to bash America.

Nike got into the act recently when it declared on free speech-hating Twitter that “one flag can’t represent us all.” Then again Nike also declared that it’s a brand of and for China, so I guess it chose its flag: a red one with five yellow stars. Patriotic Americans of all backgrounds don’t like that flag. Dissidents from China and the people of Taiwan fear it. It represents actual modern-day slavery, among other things. It represents Communist imperialism, hatred of the family, secret police, and gulags. Nike doesn’t care. This is the same Nike that set the stage for all this America bashing when it pulled its Betsy Ross flag shoes from the market in 2019 just before the July 4th holiday. Taxpayer-supported National Public Radio crowed about that affront to the nation.

“Lift Every Voice and Sing” is fine as a song. Vanessa Williams is a lovely star with a beautiful voice. She was also the first black Miss America, decades ago, which should tell people something about whether America is truly as “systemically racist” as the leftwing America-bashers constantly and incessantly claim—using the universal protections of the First Amendment to do it.

The problem is PBS chose to have that song replace the National Anthem on America’s birthday. It has no right to do this and its choice to disrespect America should put its taxpayer funding at risk. It would, maybe, if the Republicans controlled Congress, but the Democrats despise America now. None of them objected to PBS’s decision.

None are defending America during the orgy of anti-Americanism, either. They’re driving it and shoving it in America’s face. Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) still has her House committee posts despite regularly spewing anti-American and anti-Semitic bile. Representative Cori Bush (D-Mo.) chose the Fourth to be the disgusting racist she always has been. A Democrat operative in Texas is even attacking the Alamo with fake history and lies, with full complicity from every mainstream media outlet in the state and the country.

We have one nation, one flag, and one national anthem. We don’t have a Hispanic national anthem, an Asian national anthem, a white national anthem, or a black national anthem. We have one, we are one, as the national motto says: E Pluribus Unum. “Out of many, one.”

Our nation is based on universal ideals of natural human rights, under a Constitution that limits government power based on the ideals and principles set forth in the brilliant and world-changing Declaration of Independence. Abraham Lincoln, the Republican president who ended slavery, said “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”

He was right and he gave his life working to keep America together through the terrible Civil War. That war ended slavery, which America inherited from England, and which still exists in China and elsewhere, but it ended it here, at the cost of more than 600,000 American lives.

If such openly and intentionally divisive actions as showcasing a race-based national anthem and bashing America every waking hour of every day continue, Lincoln will be proven right. America’s divided house won’t stand.
