Why Do Leftists Love Illegals More Than Our Own Homeless Population?

Let’s be candid. The Left is living in a fantasy world that, to their way of thinking, moves us ever closer to some version of utopian socialism. In this fantasy, the government rides in on a grand white steed, sporting flashy armor (provided by the taxpayers, of course), and proceeds to clothe, house, and feed all the lowly peasants in need. All will be right with the world once these needs are met for the very small price of stripping them of everything else. The government knows best after all.

This world they’ve dreamed up has everything to do with how policies make them feel and very little to do with how the implementation of their preferred policies would impact the country. Some, no doubt, are driven by sincere compassion and regard for humanity, but they lack a firm grasp on reality. Others engage in this behavior for far more cynical reasons, as the false compassion wins votes and enhances their power. For them it is simple. Just make people think in terms of emotions only (never statistics), make them believe the government can solve every injustice and inequity presented by life, and boom! You’ve got voters for life.

The easiest place to challenge the “caring” narrative is their fantasy about an open border system. An open border policy isn’t really something to soothe a bleeding heart at all. It’s just the latest ploy the Left uses to pander for more votes, using illegals, without ever needing to provide evidence that the Left can, in fact, change their lives for the better.

Liberals thrive on slogans like “no human is illegal” which they know will tug at your heartstrings. They make big promises to those suffering in foreign countries and pretend to offer a beacon of hope to those seeking a champion to provide for their every need. But instead of seeing these unfortunates as people in need, the Left cynically views them as nothing but additional votes for their reelection.

On the flip side, they like to spread a narrative that holds anyone who believes in building a wall and securing our border is a racist who doesn’t care about human lives. They dismiss concerns about personal security as racism, while at the same time locking their own doors, living in gated communities, and installing fences around their homes. What they won’t tell you is how our border currently is in crisis as a result of the rhetoric from our current president. Heartbreaking stories are now emerging from border patrol agents, like the one about the two little girls dropped from a 14-foot border barrier by smugglers and even worse; examples of children being sexually assaulted and in some cases raped.

Over 90 percent of illegal immigrants arrested in 2019 had criminal records or criminal charges pending against them and illegal immigrants are typically three times more likely to be incarcerated than citizens and legal immigrants.

How safe or caring is it for American citizens to allow criminals like this to flow into our country? However leftists want to spin this, it is clear they don’t have a solution. Border facilities where illegal immigrants are being housed are 729 percent over capacity, leaving children to go hungry, sleep on the floor, and only shower once a week. Another show of their inability to back up their alleged superior caring abilities with actual solutions.

Meanwhile, let’s take a look at the statistics on homelessness in America.

There are an estimated 567,000 homeless in the United States. If leftists have cornered the market on helping those in need, why not put their solutions to work with people who are currently in need in our own country right now? Wouldn’t it be a more compelling case for our ability to care if we could tell the world we’re a country with virtually no homelessness? No hunger?

Grass is greener when you water it, so what happens when you neglect it? Let’s take a moment to focus on the fact that deeply liberal California holds the #1 spot in the country for homelessness, with an astounding 151,000 homeless people in the state. Of those, over 10,000 are veterans.

If leftist politicians truly cared about humanity as such, then you would think they would have found a solution to the homelessness crisis in their own backyard. Maybe they will circle back to that?

You know something else California has? A very liberal governor. In fact, they’ve had liberal governors for the past 10 years. You know what California hasn’t had? A conservative senator to object to any of these insane policies. The last time it did, people were listening to Nirvana on their Walkmans. Though there are certain areas in the state that push against the trend, the state as a whole typically votes for the liberal candidate on the ballot.

The only way the Left will achieve their actual goal is by manipulating your emotions to gain your vote, without ever making a positive, long-term influence in the lives of the people they are elected to serve. California is indicative of this abusive cycle.

Socialists like to say that “real” socialism and government interference has never been tried or that the socialism that has been tried was simply handled incorrectly. But David Horowitz was right when he said, “In practice, socialism didn’t work. But socialism could never have worked because it is based on false premises about human psychology and society, and gross ignorance of human economy.”

It isn’t that conservatives lack compassion for humanity, it’s merely that conservatives live in reality. They see the world as it is.

Caring about people doesn’t mean that the government must provide for their every need. It never has. Caring about people is also not something that only takes place on the Left. The Right believes caring about people necessitates action ordered to human flourishing. What good is concern disinterested in happiness?

What if instead of looking at the world through the lens of helping those who can be politically useful to us, we looked at it through the lens of trying to help those in our own communities who are suffering?

If the border crisis and appalling levels of homelessness are your idea of utopia, then count me out.
