Trump Appeals to Facebook’s Oversight Board on Ban

Facebook’s Oversight Board has received a statement on behalf of former President Trump in a bid to rejoin the platform, a spokesperson for the board confirmed Tuesday.

“Facebook Inc’s oversight board has received a ‘user statement’ for the case it is deciding about whether the social media company was right to indefinitely suspend former President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, a board spokeswoman confirmed on Tuesday,” Reuters reported.

Trump had his Facebook and Instagram accounts suspended in the wake of the riots at the US Capitol on January 6. The social media company last month said it was deferring the decision to permanently ban Trump to its independent Oversight Board.

The board’s process gave administrators of Trump’s page the option to submit a statement challenging Facebook’s decision, Reuters reported.

A decision on whether to permanently ban the former president is expected to take at least two months.
