Chicago saw another weekend of nearly record-breaking shootings and fatalities, with a total of 52 shootings and 14 fatalities, as reported by ABC News.
Among the victims were a 20-month-old boy who was murdered deliberately in a drive-by shooting on Saturday. His mother, who was 22 years old, reported that while she was driving through the Englewood neighborhood on the south side of the city in the mid afternoon, a car pulled up alongside them and opened fire. A bullet grazed her head while another one killed her son.
A 10-year-old girl was also killed on Saturday, by a stray bullet that went through a window into the apartment where she was living, in the Logan Square neighborhood located in the northeast section of the city.
The deadly weekend follows a similarly violent Father’s Day weekend, which also saw 14 fatalities and over 100 people shot. Chicago recently recorded its deadliest day in nearly 60 years, with 18 homicides on May 31st.
Violence has been skyrocketing in most of America’s largest cities, primarily due to the widespread rioting by the far-left groups Antifa and Black Lives Matter. Shootings in New York City have risen, especially after the NYPD disbanded its plainclothes unit in an attempt to appease the growing far-left demands to abolish the police. There has also been a massive spike in homicides in the city of Los Angeles.
