Vice Article Claims ‘Lifesaving’ Transgender Surgeries are Delayed by Coronavirus

A recent article in Vice claims that “transgender” Americans are being denied sex-change surgeries due to the spread of the coronavirus, inhibiting a process that the article claims is “life-saving,” as reported by Breitbart.

The article is titled “As hospitals prepare for COVID-19, life-saving trans surgeries are delayed.” In the article, a handful of “transgender” Americans are interviewed to talk about how their requested sex-change operations are being postponed or rejected amidst the outbreak of the virus.

With the spread of the disease, many non-essential jobs have been temporarily halted, and hospitals and medical facilities have been encouraged to focus only on the most serious medical conditions besides the coronavirus.

As such, sex-change surgeries are clearly not essential, although the Vice article tries to portray them as such. The author writes that “gender-affirming surgeries are life-altering procedures, which, for many, can greatly reduce gender dysphoria and improve their quality of life.” The article then claims, without evidence, that “further delays can be dangerous and even life-threatening.”
