Google’s original founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin have announced that they will be stepping down from the company, according to ABC News.
Page will be leaving his role as CEO and Brin will be resigning as president of the company, with the former position set to be filled by Sundar Pichai. Page and Brin will still remain as “co-founders, shareholders, and board members,” the company said in a statement.
Neither man offered any particular reason for stepping down, and their joint statement instead focused on Google’s simple origins and the sentimentality with which they view the company, having started it in a dorm room at Stanford, and now viewing the company as their child.
They likened their departure to two parents who must “leave the roost” and “assume the role of proud parents – offering advice and love, but not daily nagging.” They also said that they “plan to continue talking with Sundar regularly, especially on topics we’re passionate about.”
