Twitter went ablaze yesterday upon Kanye West outing himself as a Trump supporter.

And Chance the Rapper committed this mortal sin, violating the Marcusean section of the liberal catechism on free speech:
Black people don’t have to be democrats.

How dare he!!! Doesn’t he realize he can’t have that opinion?
The reaction I want to focus on, however, is from movement conservatives. Here’s Matt Walsh:
The Right: "We don't care what you stupid celebrities think! Shut up about politics!"
Random celebrity: "Actually I agree with you on one single issue."
The Right: "Hey everyone did you hear what this brilliant celebrity just said about politics? He's a genius!"

On my own Facebook account, I read someone bemoaning the fact that conservatives have gone from reading Jaffa, Kirk, and Buckley to praising Kanye.
These reactions are precisely why conservatives have been losing for decades. Just because Trump supporters praise Kanye’s actions doesn’t in any way mean we’ve put him in the hall of the great intellects of our generation. I don’t think any Trump supporter is throwing out his copy of Crisis of the House Divided for Yeezus.
We’re simply noting that we agree with Kanye’s opinion and appreciate the courage for someone of his popularity, race, and position to have made such a public declaration. When did the anti-Trump mind become so rigid that any praise of a person means accepting every single thing he’s ever done in his life?
The opportunity here is vast: continuing to break up the Democratic bloc for good and realigning our politics. Yet, what do we hear from conservatives? Moaning about “principles” and making illogical arguments. Good job guys. Way to lose.
