An attack in Moscow, Russia occurred on Friday, March 22 when four gunman entered Crocus City Hall just before a band was set to start their performance. At least 137 individuals were killed as a result of the attack, including three children. Over 150 were injured.
The ISIL armed group took responsibility for the attack, however Russian President Vladmir Putin has not acknowledged the claim, attributing the attack to “international terrorism.” Putin declared a day of mourning for the country on Sunday, March 24.
Eleven people, including the four gunmen, were detained after fleeing the attack and moving towards the Bryansk region. The Federal Security Service of Russian said the gunmen were captured near the Russia-Ukrainian border, and had contacts in Ukraine, according to an Al Jazeera article.
This was the deadliest attack on Russian soil since 2004.
