In the annals of human history there have been two main bulwarks against state power: the family and the church.
Those who seek to concentrate state power well understand this. Unfortunately, so many who want to live freely do not share this knowledge.
Which brings us to the rarest of all things to come from a cable news program, particularly on MSNBC, which is a teachable moment on the first principles of a free society. We have Politico national correspondent Heidi Przybyla to thank for it.
You might think phrases like “endowed by our Creator” and “unalienable rights” and “secure the Blessings of Liberty” in America’s founding documents might take the guesswork out of the question of the source of our rights.
You might think when Ms. Przybyla was getting her master’s degree in international relations at Michigan State University’s James Madison College the philosophical underpinnings of differing political systems and the Father of the Constitution for whom the residential college is named are topics that would have arisen.
You might think that if you didn’t appreciate that like America’s press corps, its colleges are largely sentinels of the state. Ms. Przybyla, a product of both, is 50 years old. The subservience to the state is not a new phenomenon.
To rely on secular humanists to champion God-given rights is to trust the fox to guard the hen house.
It is noteworthy Ms. Przybyla gives her Marxist offering on the repository of individual rights for the purpose of distinguishing Christianity from the alleged “Christian nationalism” of Trump supporters with the clear insinuation the latter is a dangerous interloper.
The most effective way to destroy something is to redefine it out of existence–marriage, biological sex and now Christianity and America’s origin story.
In the new, acceptable small “c” christianity, the Holy Spirit is replaced with the rainbow spirit, Jesus Christ is dismissed for a non-binary god so that we may live our truth as our authentic selves, sin, per the religious treatise of former President Barack Obama, the small “m” messiah himself, is something that is out of alignment with our individual values, and the Nicene Creed has given way to the more affirming Sparkle Creed.

Those are the forces of light and goodness.
On the dark side of the divide threatening the Sparkle jockeys pursuit of heaven on earth are the Jesus Freaks. The Bible Beaters. The Christian Right. The Evangelicals. The people clinging to their guns and religion. The people who believe our rights are God-given. You know, the insurrectionists like anyone who voted for Trump and the white supremacists like Larry Elder.
Ms. Przybyla’s riff is just the latest dog whistle to unleash the Left’s ravenous mongrels to attack those who have failed to make their unfashionable views au courant. And attack they will, literally. As the Family Research Council recently reported, there were 436 hostile acts against churches in 2023, more than twice the number from the year prior.
Behind the facade of self-righteous homages to democracy and sing-songy sermons on inclusion, the firebombings of churches and torching of parental rights will continue until morale improves.
