During times of war there is no greater sacrifice and no greater valor than a combat soldier who risks his own life to save the lives of others.
While the loss of every life is tragic, we can all agree that more lives saved is less tragic than more lives lost.
Occasionally American soldiers heroically seize an opportunity to prevent the death of their comrades, demonstrating bravery beyond comprehension to the average citizen—by jumping on an enemy’s grenade, selflessly willing to give up their lives to save others.
In my last column I called on every GOP candidate not named Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis to drop out of the 2024 presidential race and suggested they fully endorse DeSantis.
The reason for this is two-fold.
Trump and DeSantis are the only two candidates who have a realistic shot at winning the GOP nomination—which means all of the other candidates will ultimately be forced to drop out eventually—it’s only a matter of when.
But in my view—and a view that is shared by many others—DeSantis has a far greater chance of winning the presidency than Trump does, which is why it is in the interest of the other GOP candidates to suspend their presidential ambitions for the good of the country by “jumping on the grenade.”
They will not be saving the lives of their fellow candidates, but they will be responsible for rescuing the United States from the clutches of Leftist tyranny that has arguably already succeeded in weakening and destroying this country.
The sooner that they do this, the more likely it is that they will be able to propel DeSantis to the nomination and help him to win the general election. Instead of feeling the pain and disappointment of losing the primary race, each of these candidates will be able to proclaim their loyalty to the country and if DeSantis is successful, can proudly look back upon their role in helping him to achieve his victory.
The Democratic Party may have disastrous policies, but if there is one thing they know how to do, it’s how to win elections, however unscrupulous their tactics may be – removing safety requirements, ballot harvesting, universal mail-in-ballots, drop boxes, etc.
Clearly the Democrat operatives have determined that by turning Trump into a martyr, it will ensure he locks up the GOP nomination, before suffering a crushing defeat in the general election.
And right now, their plan is working even better than they could have imagined.
As Andrew McCarthy writes at National Review of the Democrats’ strategy of indicting Trump—thus ensuring he becomes the GOP nominee:
“As Democrats had surmised, this galvanized Trump’s base and even drew sympathy from other Republicans — those many who, though not big Trump fans, are not Never Trump, either. Those Republicans, it turns out, are more incensed by the Democrats’ intentionally provocative weaponization of prosecutorial power than they are fond of Trump’s GOP competitors. This diminished those competitors’ already atrophied instinct to take the race to Trump (at least the competitors who might have had a chance). When Democrats saw how well indicting Trump worked, they indicted him again . . . and again . . . and again.”
The fact is, in February, DeSantis was running neck to neck with Trump in a lot of polls—but ever since that disgrace of a Soros-funded District Attorney, Alvin Bragg handed Trump 34 indictments on April 4, Trump’s lead began to widen. With each politically motivated indictment, Trump’s lead has only grown, so much so that he doesn’t even have to debate and barely has to campaign. Like sheep—more than three months before the Iowa caucuses, we are being led to believe that his nomination is inevitable.
As McCarthy writes, “the current polling and the giddy spin on it are meant to deceive us. When crunch time comes, the former president’s numbers are going nowhere but down. That is to say, Trump can’t win. Every time Republicans and conservatives — either out of delusion or dread — say he can win, it’s like a self-fulfilling prophesy that renders it closer to impossible that an electable Republican can be nominated.”
To reiterate, these indictments are meant to harm Trump’s opponents in the primary more so than they are meant to hurt Trump. That pain will come later when we ask ourselves why we fell for the Democrat trap of ensuring Trump becomes the nominee.
As McCarthy writes:
“The former president is a charismatic, bigger-than-life figure who inspires adoration and abhorrence — not much in between and, unfortunately for him, more of the latter than the former. Trump doesn’t have ‘unfavorable’ ratings like quotidian politicians; he has ‘loathe him with every ounce of my being’ ratings. If you’re writing those voters down as a ‘maybe’ come Election Day, you’re dreaming… Despite all his considerable problems, Biden not only could tick up a bit in the polls, he almost surely will tick up when the media-Democratic complex unleashes its real barrage against Trump a few months from now. The president could beat the former president again just by holding steady because Trump is going to drop. And as for those undecideds? Some of them will hold their noses and vote Biden, some will stay home, but they will not go to Trump. No one in the United States is undecided about Trump. He is probably the most known quantity in American political history.”
So there you have it. The Democrats in tandem with these rogue prosecutors, and the state-run media are doing their damndest to prop Trump up now in order to anoint him as the inevitable GOP nominee—because they know the vast majority of independents and undecided voters are not going to be as sympathetic towards him as Republican primary voters currently are.
But you know who independents and undecided voters are likely to be more sympathetic towards? A candidate who showed leadership during two major hurricanes and exercised true courage during some of the darkest days in our country’s history—the pandemic. A candidate who has done nothing except rack up victories for the people living in Florida, including parents, students, religious worshippers, business owners, the men and women of law enforcement, and all those who moved there to escape Leftist tyranny.
The vast majority of the American people can see through the media’s lies about DeSantis, which is why he was rewarded with a historic landslide re-election victory in 2022.
But they cannot see through the negative publicity surrounding Trump, because many of them already agree with it.
With the exception of DeSantis, none of the other GOP candidates have actually served in the military, but by jumping on the grenade now, it may be the closest they ever come to receiving a medal of honor.
Oh, no I better get behind Gay Ron because an irrational Trump hating legal analyst from irrational Trump hating National Review says so!
Hard pass.
Wrong analysis, wrong conclusion. Yes, the other Lilliputian RINO candidates should drop out because they are ALL various pastels of establishment Republicans. And yes, that includes Ron DeSantis who is owned by the professional Republican establishment supporting him.
But fortunately, Ron’s presidential aspirations have crashed on the rocks of inauthenticity, voter disinterest and Trump’s unshakable support among traditional and conservative Americans.
The better analysis would be the one-word response of Brigadier General Anthony McAuliffe to the German demand to surrender during the Battle of the Bulge. When General McAuliffe read the German demand, his laconic response was, “Aw nuts.”
Washington DC, the Uniparty, and every leftist institution, woke corporation, neo-Marxist media or tech conglomerate, and progressive orc thug can pucker up and kiss my backside.
It’s Trump or nobody.
Sorry, couldn’t get past the first paragraph. Not sure how a sinking poll for DeSantis makes him the only candidate that can win.
DeSantis has blown it big time. He listened to the establishment and consultants who wanted Trump out. He is governor because of Trump but instead of being loyal and waiting for 2028, he took the big money and the candy and decided to run against him.
Now he has shown his true colors. No one is interested in DeSantis. Vivek has a better chance than Ron.
Nice try but reaks of desperation.
These guys always seem to assume unique elements of the Trump coalition are just going to fall in line behind DeSanctus if DJT is out of the picture. It’s just not going to happen. From my readings on this, depending on how drop backs out, a good 50-75% of MAGA won’t back any non-Trump candidate. Also, the Trump’s minority and White working class supporters will disappear because they don’t trust basic-model Republicans like Ron.
Carpe Diem has lots of faith in independents and undecided voters flocking to Ron. This would likely happen at least initially. The problem here is I doubt there are enough of them to offset losses from MAGA, working class and minority Trumpsters. And even if there are these two groups are unbelievably fickle; once the Lamestream media starts reporting on Ron partying with underage students or his ties to the now dead pervert Kent Stermon, they’re going to bolt.
Human nature being what it is, the grass is always greener next door. Sadly, the “green” usually turns brown quickly.
Trump is vetted and a known quantity. We know what we’re getting, warts, “grabbing coochies” and all.
Is he the best we can get? Not unless through a miracle of Heaven yours truly can be anointed El Presidente.
Absent that silly muse, then Trump is only guy who can and will do what is even close to what had to be done.
There are so few adults who think and vote.
