The Duchess of Sussex has been cold-calling Americans to ask them to vote, Gloria Steinem has revealed, Fox News reported.
The 39-year old Meghan Markle recently sat down with renowned feminist and Democrat campaigner Gloria Steinem to cold-call potential voters and urge them to act on their right to help elect public officials.
According to a recent interview with Access Hollywood, Steinem, 86, revealed after she and Meghan had their backyard chat in August the pair finished off their conversation by calling up a few members of the U.S. electorate.
“[Markle] is such an inspiration to me because she has a kind of stereotype hanging over her head, which is ‘princess,'” explained the author. “… The whole idea of ‘princess’ is a problem, we had a whole revolution to get rid of royalty. Meg is herself, smart, authentic, funny, political.”
She added: “She came home to vote and the first thing we did and why she came to see me was we sat at the dining room table … and cold-called voters.”
The former Suits star was born in America, raised in Los Angeles, and lived briefly in the U.K. when she married Prince Harry.
The couple stepped back from their royal duties earlier this year and have since moved to Santa Barbara, Calif.,where they live with their 1-year-old son, Archie.
Since their relocation to L.A. Markle has become more outspoken on politics and repeatedly highlighted the importance of voting in the upcoming US election. Members of the royal family are generally expected to be politically neutral.
The couple have set their sights on becoming Hollywood producers and recently signed a multiyear production deal with Netflix. The exclusive content will include documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming.
Last month, Markle and Steinem discussed the importance of voting in a brief video shared on Instagram.
“People forget how hard women like you, and so many others before you, fought for us to just be where we are right now,” Markle stated.
