MTG on Slowing Federal Spending: ‘Congress Must Pass DOGE Cuts’

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is speaking out on the necessity for Congress to reduce the size and scope of the federal government by cutting wasteful, fraudulent and abusive spending identified by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) advisory team.

Greene is the chair of the DOGE Subcommittee on Oversight and has high praise for Elon Musk and his DOGE team’s efforts to provide Congress with a roadmap of the corruption that needs to be halted.

In a post on X, the Georgia Congresswoman said “there is no excuse” and she called for Congress to “pass DOGE cuts.”

Greene is one of a growing chorus of GOP lawmakers who, while supportive of President Donald Trump’s proposed tax cuts, are publicly calling for Congress to make serious spending reductions based on the fraud and abuse that DOGE efforts have revealed.

The president’s “Big Beautiful Bill” passed the House last week with strong GOP support and now goes to the Senate for consideration and potential amending, which could include deeper cuts such as those recommended by DOGE.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), in an interview with CNN, explained that the bill cuts more than $1.5 trillion in federal spending, including taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal aliens and others who should not quality for federal aid.

When pressed on whether the president’s bill would be cutting certain entitlements, Johnson noted that with 4.8 million able-bodied workers on Medicaid who are capable but who choose not to work, “That is called fraud. They are cheating the system.”

Johnson added, “When you root out the abuses, you save the resources that are so desperately needed by the people who deserve it and need it most.”

The Speaker said that the GOP is the party that “supports dignity” and suggested that, “If you’re on the public wagon, you have to do something to help pull it.”

In recent days, DOGE team chief Elon Musk has expressed disappointment in Congress for failing to implement the cuts recommended by his team.

DOGE may have exposed trillions of dollars in questionable and fraudulent spending, but until Congress finds the will to cut the spending, little is likely to change.
