The governors of three sanctuary states have been called to appear before the House Oversight Committee on June 12 to discuss their states’ cooperation with federal law regarding sanctuary cities.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul will be testifying about their state policies which claim to shield illegal aliens from federal laws.
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) says he looks forward to the Oversight Committee holding the 3 Democratic governors accountable for their efforts to shield illegal aliens from immigration enforcement.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS for June 12 to see these Democrat governors do the impossible and try to convince the American people that jeopardizing their citizens’ safety to shield illegal aliens from immigration enforcement is the right policy.
I look forward to @GOPOversight holding… https://t.co/Nh4NUZ55rq

House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-KY) described the importance of this hearing, saying, “The governors of these states must explain why they are prioritizing the protection of criminal illegal aliens over the safety of U.S. citizens, and they must be held accountable.”
In January of 2025, Comer first launched an investigation into the policies of sanctuary jurisdictions and their impact on public safety as well as federal immigration enforcement.
Earlier this year, Comer and other committee members questioned the mayors of Boston, Denver, Chicago and New York on their sanctuary city status.
In a press release earlier this week, Comer called out sanctuary state governors for obstructing federal immigration enforcement, saying, “The Trump Administration is taking decisive action to deport criminal illegal aliens from our nation but reckless sanctuary states like Illinois, Minnesota, and New York are actively seeking to obstruct federal immigration enforcement.”
