Trump Trolls California’s Democrat Senators Schiff and Padilla During Dodgers White House Visit

President Donald Trump threw shade at California’s two Democrat U.S. senators during the Los Angeles Dodgers’ visit to the White House, Monday.

Trump hosted the World Series champions in the East Room of the White House for an event celebrating their victory over the New York Yankees last October.

After introducing a slew of politicians and notables in the room, Trump declined to mention the names of California Democrats Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff.

“We have a couple senators here. I just don’t particularly like them, so I won’t introduce them,” Trump quipped, as raucous laughter lingered in the room. It turns out, however, that both senators chose not to attend the ceremony honoring their home state heroes. Spokesmen for Padilla and Schiff told the Hill that “neither one was in the room for the event.”

After the president singled the Democrats out, he turned to the team and said “it’s no big deal,” prompting more chuckles.

“I didn’t think it was that big a deal, actually,” Trump told the crowd, before returning to his prepared remarks.

The president’s disgust with Schiff goes back to his first term in the White House when the senator falsely accused him of treasonously colluding with Russia to steal the 2016 election. In 2019, Schiff falsely claimed that Trump “solicited a bribe” when he urged Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in a telephone call to investigate the Biden family’s corrupt operations in his country. The House of Representatives voted to censure Schiff in July 2023 for peddling these hoaxes while chair of the House Intelligence Committee.

Trump went on to effusively praise the team’s resilience, talent and “movie star” good looks.

Dodgers stars Shohei Ohtani (2024 National League MVP), pitcher Clayton Kershaw, and infielder Mookie Betts were in attendance, as well as manager Dave Roberts.

Betts joined his teammates at the White House Monday after declining a White House visit in 2018 following his World Series victory with the Red Sox in 2018.

“I’m not trying to make this political by any means at all,” Mooks said this time around. “All it is is just me being with my team to celebrate something. It’s a privilege to get an invitation like this. I just want to be there with them.”

Kershaw, a left-handed starting pitcher who has spent his entire MLB career with the Dodgers since his debut in 2008, also delivered remarks and presented the president with an honorary “Trump 47” Dodgers baseball jersey.
