Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard put leakers in the Intelligence Community (IC) on notice Friday, vowing that her office will “aggressively” pursue those who are leaking classified and confidential information to liberal news outlets.
“Our nation’s Intelligence Community must be focused on our national security mission,” Gabbard wrote in a statement posted on X. “Politically motivated leaks undermine our national security and the trust of the American people, and will not be tolerated.”
The DNI noted that “such leaks have become commonplace” among bad actors in the IC and they have usually gotten away with it due to a lack of investigations to hold them accountable.
“That ends now,” she stated. “We know of and are aggressively pursuing recent leakers from within the Intelligence Community and will hold them accountable.”
Gabbard listed several recent examples of unauthorized leaks within the IC, including an individual who has shared classified information with the Huffington Post. Other leakers, she said, have shared information on Israel and Iran, the U.S. -Russia relationship, and National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC) activities to the Washington Post, NBC, and the Record respectively.
“Any unauthorized release of classified information is a violation of the law and will be treated as such,” Gabbard warned.
