Trump Administration Revisits ‘Kill All Chickens’ Policy Amid Rise in Bird Flu

On Wednesday, the Trump Administration’s Department of Agriculture (DOA) announced several measures to lower the prices of eggs as bird flu continues to plague many farms across the country.

DOA Secretary Brooke Rollins made the announcement in an interview with Fox News, confirming that several policies are being enacted to make eggs more affordable for consumers, as well as to help farmers deal with the disease that has been ravaging their chickens.

Citing a “long road” of excessive overregulation of the farming industry dating back to the Obama Administration, Secretary Rollins announced the investigation of several policies that negatively impact farmers, including a policy that ordered them to slaughter most of all of their chickens to combat the virus. Although the policy won’t be reversed immediately, the Trump DOA will be determining whether or not to roll back this and other policies.

“We are going to have some pilot programs across the country that work to prove that out,” said Secretary Rollins. “The avian flu is an extremely fast-spreading virus, and within a couple of days it spreads so quickly that most of the chickens have died anyway. But there are some farms that are out there and that are willing to really try this.”

At the same time, Rollins said, the DOA will be working to import eggs from other countries in order to meet consumer demand and offset price spikes in the U.S. But she emphasized that this dependence on foreign eggs is a temporary solution rather than a long-term or permanent fix.

Even after the 2024 election, the Biden Administration continued rolling out more regulations on America’s farmers, citing bird flu as an excuse for increased government control. One policy announced in December mandated nationwide testing of milk supplies to determine if they had been infected with the disease.

It seems to me that the chief cause of the “fast spread” of avian flu and death of the poor chickens is the conditions in these factory farms. Why not try to instill (or re-instill?) some sense of self sufficiency in Americans by relaxing restrictions locally on keeping chicken coops and providing our own eggs? The days of relying on factory farms and Big Food are over. Can we not conclude from the disastrous Big Food and Big Ag concentrations of the food supply that things have got to change? I hope RFK, Jr.'s arrival at HHS has influence over much of the criminal policies and preferences which resulted in the Great Costco Butter Disaster and this latest Avian Flu Chicken Genocide.
