New York City’s Roosevelt Hotel to Clear Out Illegal Aliens

On Monday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D-N.Y.) announced that the iconic Roosevelt Hotel, which has since been converted into a shelter for illegal aliens, will be expelling its illegal population in the next few months.

As the New York Post reports, Mayor Adams released a video message in which he described the coming evictions as a “milestone” for the Big Apple. New York has been one of the largest “sanctuary cities” in the country, dedicated to allowing in as many illegals as possible in defiance of federal immigration law. But in more recent years, even the Democratic mayor has begun to turn against the open-borders policies of the majority of his party.

Since 2022, New York City has seen over 232,000 illegals invade the city, which led to the Adams Administration converting even iconic hotels, like the Roosevelt, into migrant shelters once the officially-designated shelters reached maximum capacity. The spike in illegal immigration has also led to a rise in homelessness and crime in the city.

Adams announced that the weekly average of illegals arriving in the city is now down to about 350, a significant drop from the 4,000 weekly average the city was suffering at the height of the mass migration crisis during the Biden presidency. In the first week of the second Trump Administration, only about 300 new illegals entered the city, while 1,800 illegals left city shelters, for a net decrease of 1,500.

At the peak of the crisis, in January of 2024, New York City registered over 69,000 illegals in its official shelters; that number is currently down to about 45,000. Mayor Adams has said that he expects 53 different migrant shelters to be shut down completely by June of this year.

Mayor Adams attributed the new decision with the Roosevelt Hotel to “the successful strategies we put in place here in New York City and because of policies we advocated for at the border.”

“While we’re not done caring for those that came into our care, today marks another milestone in demonstrating the immense progress we have achieved in turning the corner on the unprecedented international humanitarian effort,” said Adams in his video statement.
