On Monday, President Donald Trump announced his intention to fire members of the Board of Visitors for every U.S. military service academy.
Fox News reports that the president made his announcement via social media, declaring that the boards of the Army Academy (also known as West Point), Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Coast Guard Academy would all be fired. These boards have a direct role in determining the curriculum and culture of each academy.
“Our Service Academies have been infiltrated by Woke Leftist Ideologues over the last four years. I have ordered the immediate dismissal of the Board of Visitors for the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard,” President Trump wrote. “We will have the strongest Military in History, and that begins by appointing new individuals to these Boards. We must make the Military Academies GREAT AGAIN!”
On each board, six members are appointed by the President of the United States, while another three are chosen by the Vice President; another four are selected by the Speaker for the House of Representatives, and two more are chosen by the House Armed Services Committee and Senate Armed Services Committee.
The move is President Trump’s latest step in combatting left-wing indoctrination, including diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs and initiatives, which have been increasingly forced on the military. Newly-confirmed Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has also taken steps to reverse such actions taken during the Biden Administration, including a recent proclamation restoring the name of the historic Fort Bragg in North Carolina.
