On Sunday, the Golden Globes Award’s red carpet event, several prominent LGBTQ actors received overwhelming focus from the media for their appearances.
As reported by Breitbart, male actor Jonathan Van Ness, the star of Netflix series Queer Eye, wore a green dress even though he displayed clearly masculine features, such as a full beard. Van Ness claims to be “non-binary,” a subset of the broader gender dysphoria mental illness where someone believes that they are not of either of the two genders.
In conjunction with his mental illness, Van Ness, who demands to be referred to by “they/them” pronouns, has repeatedly been accused of having “rage issues” on set, which has led to coworkers describing him as a “monster.”
“[There’s] a real emotion of fear around [him] when [he] get[s] angry,” an anonymous source said to Rolling Stone. “It’s almost like a cartoon where it oozes out of [him]. It’s intense and scary.”
“Jonathan’s a person who contains multitudes and who has the capacity to be very warm, very charismatic, and has the capacity to make you feel really special that [he is] paying attention to you,” said another anonymous source. “But at least once a day, [he] would need to yell at somebody.”
Van Ness has defended the idea of underaged children undergoing gender transition surgeries, saying that he “could cry because I’m so tired of having to fight for little kids because they just want to be included.” He also mocked the concept of fairness in women’s sports, calling it “fictitious.”
“I wish people were as passionate about little kids being able to be included or grow up as they were about fictitious women’s fairness in sports,” he said in an interview with podcast host Dax Shepard. “I have to tell you I am very tired.”
Elsewhere on the red carpet was Karla Sofia Gascon, a male who believes he is a female, one of the stars of the film Emilia Perez, for which he was nominated for Best Actress in the musical/comedy genre. He ultimately lost the award to Demi Moore for her role in the horror movie The Substance.
