A historic road in South Florida has officially been renamed after President-elect Donald Trump.
During a meeting Tuesday, Miami-Dade County commissioners approved a resolution renaming a four-mile stretch of Palm Avenue in Hialeah as “President Donald J. Trump Avenue,” NBC6 reported.
“Today, we ratified the City of Hialeah’s initiative to honor President Trump’s legacy of championing freedom and opportunity by co-designating Palm Avenue, a vital artery in our community, as ‘President Donald J. Trump Avenue,'” Commissioner Kevin Marino Cabrera declared.
Hialeah has a population of 223,109 and is the sixth-largest city in Florida.
Mayor Esteban “Steve” Bovo announced the proposal last year and presented Trump with a street sign at a rally after the Hialeah city council approved it.
Trump posted a photo on Truth Social Tuesday of the mayor standing next to the street sign in Hialeah bearing his name.
“Our community deeply understands and appreciates the sacrifice, work, and dedication of President Trump,” Cabrera said in a statement Tuesday. “By naming Palm Avenue—a vital artery that runs through the heart of Hialeah and serves as a hub for local businesses and cultural identity—we are forever immortalizing President Trump’s legacy. Future generations who traverse this street will be reminded of his fight for the principles of freedom, prosperity, and opportunity.”
Trump won about 75 percent of the vote in Hialeah in last month’s election and won Miami-Dade by more than 13 percent, the first time a Republican has won the previously blue stronghold since 1988.
