University at Buffalo Hosts Event About ‘Decolonizing Thanksgiving’

The New York University at Buffalo hosted a forum last week with a clear anti-Thanksgiving bias, questioning whether or not it is “right to celebrate Thanksgiving,” and discussed “decolonizing” the historic holiday.

As reported by Breitbart, the event was hosted on November 21st in the university’s Intercultural and Diversity Center (IDC), as part of a series of forums titled “Tough Topics.” These events are described as “weekly open forums” where current events, national and global, are discussed.

The description of this particular event, titled “Decolonizing Thanksgiving,” asked the question “is it right to celebrate Thanksgiving and America’s history of settler colonialism?”

“What can we do to honor this day of mourning for Native communities? We can redefine the meaning of Thanksgiving and respect indigenous people’s histories,” the description continued.

The university’s IDC has hosted anti-Thanksgiving events in the past. In 2021, another event at the IDC was titled “The Real History of Thanksgiving,” which falsely described the holiday tradition as “whitewashed” and ordered students to consider alternative holidays that they could “do in place” of the beloved American holiday.

Other universities across the country have continued to promote anti-Thanksgiving propaganda, including the University of Michigan and the Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

The Left’s primary criticism of Thanksgiving is that, allegedly, the pilgrims invaded the land that was first occupied by the Native Americans, and eventually went on to conquer the native population as the land became more colonized by European immigrants. However, this is false; historical records confirm that the original Thanksgiving was a peaceful gathering between pilgrims and the natives, who shared a meal in harmony as they learned to live together in the same land.
