Tom Homan, the incoming Border Czar for the second Trump Administration, has issued a clear warning to all “sanctuary” cities in the country that plan on harboring illegal aliens, threatening prosecution if they defy federal authorities during the coming mass deportation operation.
As Just The News reports, Homan made his threats clear in an interview, stating that “impeding a federal law enforcement officer is a crime,” and that if sanctuary cities “knowingly harbor or conceal an illegal alien from ICE, that’s a crime. So don’t cross that line.”
“Federal law trumps state and local law every time,” Homan explained. “If we know someone’s in a county jail and we know they’re there. How do we know it? When they run the fingerprints from NCIC, they bounce against the DHS database, we know, okay, we just got prints off this alien in this jail because his fingerprints just came back. And that’s where he’s at right now.”
“So if we know he’s there, they don’t give us access to him,” Homan continued. “Is that not harboring?”
Homan said that any potential prosecutions of sanctuary city officials involved in harboring illegals would ultimately be left up to President-elect Donald Trump’s choice for Attorney General. The president-elect has announced former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi (R-Fla.) as his pick.
“I’ll leave it up to the Attorney General, but I think it needs to be fully reviewed,” said Homan. “And I hope they agree with me.”
Homan, who previously served as the acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Trump’s first term, was announced as the new Border Czar shortly after President Trump’s victory on November 5th. He will be taking over the position that is currently held by outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris (D-Calif.). As the position does not require Senate confirmation, Homan will be allowed to begin his work on January 20th; he will work directly with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary, but will report directly to the president. President-elect Trump has picked South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R-S.D.) to be his DHS Secretary.
President-elect Trump campaigned heavily on the immigration crisis once again, just as he did in 2016. He has vowed to carry out the largest mass deportation operation in American history, targeting the over 14 million illegal aliens who came into the country illegally during the Biden-Harris Administration’s era of “open borders.”
