‘Save Girls Sports’ T-Shirts Worn By Female HS Athletes Compared to Wearing ‘Swastika’

Two female high school cross country runners in California are suing the Riverside Unified School District after being told that their t-shirts opposing the inclusion of male athletes in girls’ sports were akin to “wearing a swastika.”

The girls, who currently have a boy who identifies as female on their team, were told by Martin Luther King High School Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Amanda Chann to remove or conceal their t-shirts bearing the message “Save Girls Sports.”

The incident took place at a practice on November 1 where Chann reportedly told the girls that their t-shirts created a “hostile” environment.

Now the girls and their parents are suing the district and a handful of school officials in federal court under Title IX, claiming that the school not only violated their rights to freely express themselves but also has pushed girls out of their sports to make room for non-female athletes.

The lawsuit contends that one of the plaintiffs, a varsity athlete identified by the initials T.S., lost her spot on the team which was given instead to a biological male student who failed to attend practices or meet strict varsity criteria.

The girl’s family says that this denied their daughter the opportunity to compete in a key competition and to miss out on critical exposure for college scouting.

They are suing under Title IX, saying that the school’s enforcement of its dress code is selective and that its ideologically-driven policies which ignore biological differences are undermining fair play and integrity in girls’ sports.

According to the Mercury News, the plaintiffs are seeking a court order against the school district “to prevent further suppression of their free speech rights, a judgment affirming Title IX protections for female athletes” while also seeking unspecified damages.

The lawsuit is the latest Title IX challenge to toxic inclusion policies that allow biological males to compete against female athletes at the high school and collegiate level.
