Trump Announces Former ICE Director Tom Homan as ‘Border Czar’

In his latest major hiring decision ahead of a second term in office, President-elect Donald Trump announced that he would be appointing Tom Homan, former Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), as the new “border czar” in charge of overseeing all deportation operations.

As reported by the New York Post, President Trump made the announcement in a post on his social media website Truth Social.

“I am pleased to announce that the Former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders (‘The Border Czar’), including, but not limited to, the Southern Border, the Northern Border, all Maritime, and Aviation Security,” said President Trump. “I’ve known Tom for a long time, and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders. Likewise, Tom Homan will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin.”

“I have no doubt he will do a fantastic, and long awaited for, job,” Trump concluded.

Homan will be assuming the role that had previously been assigned to Vice President Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) during the outgoing Biden Administration, a role for which she was repeatedly mocked due to her taking no action whatsoever to secure the border. Due to it being a new position that is not at the Cabinet level, Homan does not need to be confirmed by the Senate and can start his new role on the first day.

Homan served as Acting Director of ICE only because the Senate at the time refused to confirm him. He had previously said that he would retire from public office after the first term.

On Sunday, Homan said during an interview that the planned mass deportations would be carried out in a “humane manner,” and that the military would not be part of it.

“It’s going to be a well-targeted, planned operation conducted by the men of ICE. The men and women of ICE do this daily,” Homan reassured. “They’re good at it.”

“When we go out there, we’re going to know who we’re looking for,” Homan continued. “We most likely know where they’re going to be, and it’s going to be done in a humane manner.”

With immigration long being President Trump’s signature issue, the soon-to-be 47th President has repeatedly vowed to carry out the largest mass deportation operation in American history, in response to the unprecedented surge of illegal aliens over the border during the Biden-Harris Administration. He has also vowed to resume construction of his border wall, which was halted by the Democratic presidency that came after his first term.

Since his landslide victory in the presidential election last Tuesday, in which he expanded his electoral map and even won the popular vote for the first time, the president-elect has gradually announced top personnel picks for a second term; these include Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) as Ambassador to the United Nations, and 2024 campaign manager Susie Wiles as White House Chief of Staff, the first woman to ever hold the position.
