Schumer Refuses to Let McCormick Attend Senate Orientation Despite Winning Senate Race

In an act of election interference and refusal to acknowledge the outcome of an election, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is refusing to let Senator-elect Dave McCormick (R-Penn.) attend Senate orientation this week despite having been declared the winner of the race.

According to Fox News, Schumer claimed, with no evidence, that the race is still undecided due to outstanding ballots. A spokesman for Schumer’s office said that “with over 100,000 ballots left to be counted in Pennsylvania, the race has not been decided. As is custom, we will invite the winner once the votes are counted.” This, however, is not the Senate custom; many other senators are allowed to attend orientation this week despite many votes left to be counted, including Senator-elect Adam Schiff in California.

Senator-elect McCormick currently leads incumbent Senator Bob Casey (D-Penn.) by 40,000 votes, with 98% of the vote reporting in. The Associated Press, as well as many local and statewide news outlets, have called the race for McCormick. Despite this, Casey has refused to concede.

Senator Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), posted a statement on X declaring that “denying legit election results & blocking @DaveMcCormickPA from participating in Sen. orientation this week is outrageous & a disservice [to] PA & the country.”

“Casey should concede,” Daines concluded. “He has no path to overturn these results.”

In another statement on X, Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, said that “Schumer and Senate Democrats are denying the election results in #PASen. Trying to block @DaveMcCormickPA from attending Senate orientation this week is an outrage.”

“Casey must concede immediately or Senate Democrats face consequences,” Barrasso warned.

McCormick’s victory has even been acknowledged by an outgoing member of the Democratic caucus in the Senate, with Senator Joe Manchin (I-W.V.) bidding farewell to Casey and congratulating McCormick.

“While we are losing a good person and colleague in Senator Bob Casey, I believe the Senate will be gaining another good man in Senator-Elect David McCormick,” said Manchin on X.

With Senator-elect McCormick’s victory over the three-term Senator Casey, Republicans have recaptured control of the U.S. Senate, with a majority of 53 seats. Republicans also flipped Democratic seats in West Virginia, Ohio, and Montana, while narrowly losing challenges in Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada, and Arizona.
