Elon Musk likens the surge of identity politics among the U.S. populace to a rapidly spreading mind virus that has infected members of the mainstream media (MSM), academia, and the political class.
In a tweet on his social media platform X, Musk shared a chart created by research scientist David Rozado that tracks the mention of various phrases associated with prejudice in popular American media outlets between 1970 and 2020.
The chart shows how various words and phrases like “racist” and “racism” or “sexism” and “misogyny” or “homophobia” and “transphobia” or “anti-semitic” and “islamophobic” have been utilized by the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal during that time period.
The resulting visual representation makes it clear that the current woke mind virus in media is a relatively recent development.
Worth showing this again. You can see the mind virus spread rapidly, just like a physical virus. https://t.co/JaxtueeX9b

Rozado’s graphs show the phrases listed above as being mentioned sparingly from 1970 through the early 2000s with a small upward trend in the early to mid 90s.
Phrases like “transphobic” and “islamophobia” don’t even register on the chart until well after 2005. Likewise, terms like “homophobia” “anti-semitic” and “sexism” saw mild usage up until the early 2010s.
However, from 2012 onward, the graph for begins to trend sharply upward for “racism” and then goes nearly vertical for all of the terms, especially for the Washington Post and Los Angeles Times just prior to 2020.
Musk has been particularly outspoken on what he calls the “woke mind virus” due to being tricked by radical leftists into transitioning his son Xavier who struggled with gender dysphoria.
Elon Musk will destroy the Woke Mind Virus once and for all.
“I lost my Son, they call it dead naming for a reason, so my Son, Xavier is dead. Killed by the woke mind virus. I vowed to destroy the woke mind virus after that.”

If there is a bright side to this trend, it’s that David Rozado’s research appears to show what he calls the “Great Awokening” may be winding down.
Last year, Rozado reported that mentions of ethnic prejudice were down in some of the most influential American newspapers.
However, he also warned that Donald Trump’s return to the White House could reignite the spirit of the Great Awokening.
Based on some of the current meltdowns occurring throughout the MSM, that prediction appears to be on target.
I voted for a repeat of this. I just want my kids to experience the pure unadulterated joy of a liberal media meltdown in realtime.
