Border Patrol agents stationed along the northern border between the United States and Canada once again broke a record for the number of apprehensions of illegal aliens in modern history.
As reported by Just The News, the fiscal year of 2024 – which started October 1st of 2023 and ended on September 30th of this year – saw a total of 198,929 illegal aliens who were either encountered or apprehended after crossing the border, according to data from Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This is the highest number of border encounters for the northern border in American history, and comes after two of the previous fiscal years under the Biden-Harris Administration similarly broke records.
In fiscal year 2023, there were 189,402 illegal encounters, compared to 109,535 in 2022. By comparison, there were just 27,180 encounters in 2021.
The most high-traffic sector along the northern border was the Swanton Sector, which encompasses the entire state of Vermont, as well as six counties in New York and three counties in New Hampshire. A total of 19,385 illegals from 97 different countries were apprehended in this sector alone, a total that is higher than the last 17 years combined.
The Swanton Sector similarly broke records in the prior fiscal year, with over 6,700 illegals arrested from 76 different countries.
Among these illegals are known or suspected terrorists (KSTs), who have tried to enter the U.S. from Canada since 2021. Since the 2021 fiscal year, over 1,900 KSTs have been arrested, which was higher than the previous record of 1,700 in a single year. Of those KSTs, 64% came across the northern border.
