Hundreds of Ballots Destroyed in Ballot Box Arson Attacks in Vancouver and Portland

Hundreds of election ballots were reportedly destroyed in Washington and Oregon overnight, in suspected arson attacks at two drop boxes.

An incendiary device was reportedly attached outside a ballot box in Vancouver, Wa., sparking the flames. “It appears that a device was attached to the outside of the ballot drop box that resulted in the ballots being ignited,” said Clark County auditor Greg Kimsey. “We don’t have the exact number, but it was hundreds,” he added.

Police said an incendiary device was discovered inside the ballot box in Portland, Or. Thanks to a fire suppressant inside the box in Portland, that fire only resulted in three ballots being burned.

The Vancouver fire started at around 4 a.m. Monday, about half an hour after the fire in Portland, police said.

The deep blue cities are less than ten miles apart, separated by the Columbia River.

The area is known be a stronghold of the violent anarchist group antifa, whose slogan is “become ungovernable,” independent journalist Andy Ngo noted on X, Monday. In 2020, the group called for Election Day violence using the specific imagery of a ballot box in flames.

 

 

Democrats are underperforming in early voting in both states, with Republicans seeing a 16.9 percent bump in Oregon.

Those who dropped their ballot in the Vancouver Transit Center location after 11 a.m. Saturday have been told to contact Clark County Elections for a replacement.

The FBI is investigating the ballot box fire in Vancouver, according to the Oregonian.
