A controversial bail fund that was openly supported by Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris helped to free numerous individuals accused of violent crimes, including a Minnesota man who was later charged with murder.
48 year old George Howard was out on $11,500 bond, in connection with a domestic assault case, on August 6, 2021. He was charged two counts of second-degree murder in connection with the road rage shooting of 38 year old Luis Damien Martinez Ortiz on August 29 of that same year.
The Minnesota Freedom Fund released a statement on Twitter admitting that the organization was “aware of reports of the tragic fatal shooting in Minneapolis allegedly involving George Howard, an individual the Minnesota Freedom Fund had previously provided with bail support.”
That post was later removed from Twitter.
In a follow-up tweet, the group stated:
“Under new leadership, MFF has implemented changes to its policies and procedures, and we will continue to assess them to ensure that we are being responsive to the safety and needs of our community.”
Vice president Harris has drawn sustained criticism for her support of the Minnesota Freedom Fund during the riots of 2020 when she urged her followers to donate to the campaign with a link to the group’s donation site on Act Blue.
If you’re able to, chip in now to the @MNFreedomFund to help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota. https://t.co/t8LXowKIbw

As early as September 2020, questions were being raised about multiple violent individuals being bailed out of jail by the MFF.
Legacy news organizations have attempted to run interference for Harris by publishing misdirection stories claiming that she never personally donated to the MFF.
But the Vice President has never denied or distanced herself from the fact that she publicly sought to get others to donate to an organization which helped put violent criminals back on the streets of Minnesota.
