On Sunday, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) gushed over Joe Biden to the point that she even suggested adding his face to the iconic Mount Rushmore.
Fox News reports that the comments were made during an interview with CBS’ Lesley Stahl, after Stahl asked whether or not Pelosi was part of the campaign to force Biden off of the presidential ticket after his historically poor debate performance against former President Donald Trump.
Pelosi denied having any such role in the plot to remove Biden, despite numerous reports in the mainstream media claiming that she was a key player in the campaign to end his career.
“No, I wasn’t the leader of any pressure [campaign]. Let me say things that I didn’t do: I didn’t call one person. I did not call one person. I could always say to him, ‘I never called anybody.'”
She then pivoted to praising the 81-year-old incumbent.
“He was in a good place to make whatever decision – the top of his game,” said Pelosi. “Such a consequential president of the United States, a Mount Rushmore kind of president of the United States.”
A visibly stunned Stahl then asked “Are you really saying that he belongs up there on Mount Rushmore? Lincoln and Joe Biden?”
Pelosi responded by saying “Well, you got Teddy Roosevelt up there, and he’s wonderful. I don’t say take him down. But you can add Biden.”
The sudden nature of Biden’s reversal, after months of insisting that he would not drop out, has led to a widespread assumption that he was forced out due to behind-the-scenes maneuvering by top leaders in the Democratic Party, including Pelosi, as well as former President Barack Obama, House Speaker Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), among others. Biden is the first president since the 1800s to choose not to seek re-election after serving just one term, and the first president in American history to drop out of his re-election campaign after already winning the primaries.
I think I’m going to be sick…
