Paris Reverses Plans for Vegan Diet, Provides Meat for Olympic Athletes

The city government of Paris has reversed its plans to provide only a vegan diet for the Olympic athletes staying in the city, buying bulk supplies of meat and eggs after overwhelming demand from the athletes.

Breitbart reports that, upon the city of Paris caving to the athletes’ demands, Olympic organizers ordered approximately 4,000 pounds of meat and eggs. Athletes were previously only being served fake meat and non-dairy products. The failed attempt was part of the French government’s efforts to promote a “green” agenda with this year’s games.

“As far as food is concerned, we had to make a few changes, and we had to adapt, which is quite normal,” said Etienne Thobois, head of the Paris 2024 committee. “We have 700kg of eggs and a tonne of meat have been the increases we have provided to meet the needs of athletes.”

“We have got a full vision in terms of nutrition which is designed to provide the products necessary, including organic food,” Thobois added. “We have adapted everything, and it is to the satisfaction of all concerned.

In addition to the food controversy, the organizers of this year’s Olympics also tried to ban air conditioning in order to save electricity. After further protest from the athletes, the organizers allowed all teams to bring their own air conditioning equipment.

At least one athlete has blamed her performance on the poor living and eating conditions that they had to endure before Paris made the concessions.

“It probably wasn’t the time I thought I was capable of, but living in the Olympic Village makes it hard to perform,” said Australian swimmer Ariarne Titmus on Sunday, after failing to set a new world record in the 800-meter freestyle swim. “It’s definitely not made for high performance, so it’s about who can really keep it together in the mind.”
