DOJ Confirms Possession of Biden-Biographer Transcripts

On Monday, the Department of Justice (DOJ) revealed in a court filing that it does indeed possess the transcripts of Joe Biden’s interview with a biographer, having initially denied that such transcripts were in its possession.

As reported by Fox News, the DOJ has faced multiple Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests for materials related to former Special Counsel Robert Hur’s investigation into Biden’s illegal possession of classified documents from his time as vice president. Attorneys for the DOJ have tried to argue that it would take too much time to process audio files from Biden’s interview with author Mark Zwonitzer into transcripts.

“We don’t have some transcript that’s been created by the special counsel that we can attest to its accuracy,” DOJ lawyer Cameron Silverberg falsely told U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich last month. It was Silverberg himself who admitted in the court filing that Hur’s office does have the transcripts after all. Zwonitzer previously worked with Biden in 2007 and 2017.

“In the past few days, in the course of processing the portions of the Biden-Zwonitzer audio recordings that the parties agreed to (see June 25, 2024 Joint Status Report at 2-3, ECF No. 20), the Department located six electronic files, consisting of a total of 117 pages, that appeared to be verbatim transcripts of a small subset of the Biden-Zwonitzer audio recordings created for the SCO by a court-reporting service,” the Monday court filing reveals.

The FOIA request for the Biden-Zwonitzer transcript, one of many that has been filed against the Biden Administration, was made by the Heritage Foundation.

Republicans are currently in pursuit of the audio recordings of Hur’s interviews with Biden, believing that the tapes would prove just how much Biden has cognitively declined. The transcripts of the interviews indicate that Biden paused multiple times and didn’t even know basic facts about recent events and the years they took place in (including the death of his own son Beau), although the DOJ admitted to heavily editing the transcripts.

Concerns about Biden’s age, health, and mental state ultimately led to the president withdrawing from the 2024 election on Sunday, in a historic and shocking decision that is without precedent in American presidential history. Biden had already won the Democratic Party presidential primaries and was the presumptive nominee, with just one month left before the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in late August. Now incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris, whom Biden endorsed, is the new presumptive nominee.
