Biden Falsely Claims Border Encounters are Lower Than Beginning of Term

On Thursday, Joe Biden made a false claim that illegal border crossings are now lower than they were when he first took office, at the end of the first term of the Trump Administration.

As fact-checked by Breitbart, 84,000 illegal aliens were apprehended at the southern border in June of 2024. In January of 2021, President Trump’s final month in office, there were 75,000 such encounters.

“So I took executive action last month. As a consequence, working with Mexico, border encounters have gone down over 50 percent,” Biden falsely claimed. “The current level is lower today than when Trump left office.”

Also, despite the June numbers marking the lowest month yet of Biden’s presidency with regards to illegal border crossings, they do not account for the illegals who are deliberately brought into the country by the CBP One app which essentially gives illegals a pathway to citizenship. Millions of third-world illegals have entered the country as a result of this program, which was first created in early 2023.

Current estimates project that the total illegal population of the United States is at least 10 million, according to the Heritage Foundation.

In addition to his outright false claims, Biden was widely mocked on social media for several major gaffes that he made during the high-stakes press conference, which was meant to close out the NATO Summit celebrating the alliance’s 75th anniversary. During his speech, he introduced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “President Putin,” and also referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump.”

Biden’s poor performance in the press conference only further added to ongoing internal Democratic concerns about his age and mental decline, following a disastrous debate performance against President Trump in June. An increasing number of Democrats have called on him to withdraw from the race, including nearly a dozen House Democrats and one Democratic Senator, Peter Welch (D-Vt.). Despite the speculation, Biden has repeatedly and defiantly insisted that he will not drop out.
