A brand new American Greatness poll took the post-debate temperature of voters in that key battleground state that has been decided by razor-thin margins in each of the last two elections. In the coming days, Wisconsin will host the Republican National Convention, a clear signal to voters there just how pivotal the Badger State will be in determining who will win the presidency in November.
In a two-man race, Trump leads Biden by +2%, 46-44%, with 10% undecided.
In a five-candidate field, Trump also leads by +2%, with the former president at 38%, Biden at 36%, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at 11%, Jill Stein at 3%, Libertarian Chase Oliver at 2%, and 9% undecided.
Trump benefits from a marked decline in the percentage of Wisconsin voters who believe Biden is “mentally and physically capable of performing his duties as president for another four years.” In April polling by the same firm using the same methodology, 39% of likely voters said he is capable. Now, after Biden’s roundly criticized debate performance, that number stating that Biden is “capable” plunged to only 29%. Similarly, only 34% of voters believe that Biden should “continue to run,” while 57% believe the Democrats should select an alternative candidate.
On the issues, Trump continues to enjoy a large lead on the “better off” question about comparative economic prosperity under the two leaders, earning a 51-39% advantage. Nearly 2/3s of voters believe that Biden deserves a “great deal” or “some” blame for the 20% increase in overall inflation on his watch.
On immigration, only 13% of Wisconsin citizens believe that it has improved the quality of life in their state. 76% of Wisconsinites support the November ballot referendum that will ensure that only US citizens may vote in elections there.
The survey was conducted by North Star Opinion Research and interviewed 600 likely voters, with a sample that was evenly split between Trump and Biden 2020 voters. Margin of error is +/- 4%.
