CNN host Kasie Hunt cut off Trump spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt Monday morning, and abruptly ended the interview as soon as Leavitt cited examples of CNN anchor Jack Tapper’s extreme bias against the presumptive Republican nominee for president.
“You come on my show, you respect my colleagues,” Hunt later wrote on X. “I don’t care what side of the aisle you stand on, as my track record clearly shows.”
In response, Leavitt wrote: “You cut off my microphone for bringing up the debate moderator’s history of anti-Trump lies. This proved our point that President Trump will not be treated fairly on Thursday. Yet he is still willing to go into this 3-1 fight to bring his winning message to the American people, and he will win.”
CNN Anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash are scheduled to serve as moderators during the presidential debate on June 27 in Democrat stronghold Atlanta, Georgia.
Hunt’s X post has since been flagged with a potential “community note” stating: “The interview was to discuss the upcoming debate. It will be moderated by the poster’s colleagues. The guest gave her opinion of debate by indicating both moderators have a history of bias against her candidate. The poster said this was off limits. She was set up to fail.”
The ill-fated interview began with Hunt asking Leavitt what Trump was going to do differently on the debate stage after “losing” the 2020 election to Joe Biden.
Leavitt answered that Trump was “well prepared” for the upcoming debate and didn’t have “to hide away and have his advisors tell him what to say.”
“President Trump knows what he wants to say and he’s going to relay his vision to the American people to make this country strong, safe secure and wealthy again,” she added.
Leavitt noted that Trump has been proclaiming his message all across the nation and has no qualms about “going into a hostile environment” like CNN “with debate moderators who have made their opinion of him very well known over the past eight years in their biased coverage of him.”
Hunt bristled at these comments, saying haughtily, “I’ll just say—my colleagues Jake Tapper and Dana Bash have acquitted themselves as professionals as they have covered campaigns and have interviewed candidates from all sides of the aisle, and I would also say that if you talk to analysts of debates previous that if you’re attacking the moderator, you’re usually losing.”
The CNN host went on to ask Leavitt what she expected to see from Biden during the debate, but Leavitt wanted to revisit Hunt’s earlier comments about Tapper and Bash’s alleged unbiased professionalism.
“Well, first of all, it would take someone five minutes to google ‘Jake Tapper, Donald Trump’ to see that Jake Tapper has consistently referred to Donald Trump as Adolf Hitler …” she began.
Hunt broke in angrily, saying, “ma’am, I’m going to stop this interview if you continue to attack my colleagues. I would like to talk about Joe Biden and Donald Trump who you work for. If you’re to speak on his behalf, I am willing to have this conversation.”
Laughing, Leavitt responded by saying she was just stating facts based on what the CNN hosts had said in the past.
At that point, the flustered host interrupted Leavitt again, cut her feed and ended the interview.
“Thank you very much for your time, you are welcome to come back at any point, she is welcome to come back and speak about Donald Trump,” Hunt said.
Leavitt had simply stated a fact about Tapper’s long history of comparing Trump to Hitler.
A video compilation posted on X shows the CNN anchor repeatedly accusing Trump of using “the dehumanizing rhetoric of Adolf Hitler.” Bash, meanwhile, recently accused Trump of using an “anti-Semitic trope” when he said any Jew who votes for Democrats hates their religion.
Hunt then insisted that Trump and Biden would have equal time during the debate on Thursday, and turned to her panel of liberal pundits to discuss how the “the right” loves to attack the media.
When she was at MSNBC, it should be noted, Hunt reported that one of her “favorite stories” was “the incident that left Senator Rand Paul with six broken ribs.”
In 2017, Paul suffered the broken ribs, including three displaced fractures, and an injured lung after his crazed leftist neighbor attacked him while he was mowing the lawn. The beating also caused fluid and blood around his lungs, and pneumonia. In August of 2019, part of his damaged lung had to be surgically removed.
Despite her network’s history of comparing Trump to Hitler, Hunt held a panel discussion just last month to lambast Trump for accusing the Biden regime of “running a Gestapo administration.” CNN reported that “according to three attendees,” the former president had equated Joe Biden’s administration to Nazi Germany—and treated the accusation like an outrageous and out of line political attack.
Leavitt later appeared on conservative influencer Benny Johnson’s podcast to discuss her abbreviated appearance on CNN.
“I still can’t believe this happened,” she told Johnson. “It is really shocking just how triggering the truth is to CNN.”
She added: “all I was doing was pointing out the fact that President Trump is bold to go on a three against one fight on a network that is clearly hostile to him. Let’s stop pretending like CNN is still the most trusted name in news—it’s not!”
