Florida Intercepts Boat Carrying Haitian Illegal Aliens, Drugs, and Guns

On Friday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) announced that the state had seized a boat attempting to land on Florida’s coast carrying illegal aliens from Haiti, as well as firearms and drugs from the war-torn country.

According to the Washington Free Beacon, the announcement came shortly after DeSantis announced that the state would be ramping up efforts to patrol its coastline in anticipation of a surge of illegals from Haiti, as a result of gang violence that has plunged the small island nation into civil war.

“Our Florida Fish and Wildlife officers intercepted a vessel that had 25 illegal immigrants, potential illegal immigrants from Haiti in their boat,” said DeSantis during a press conference. “In their vessel they had firearms, they had drugs, they had night vision gear and were boating very recklessly, which would potentially endanger other folks.”

All occupants and the other materials aboard the boat “were turned over to the Coast Guard for deportation,” DeSantis added.

DeSantis had declared that the state would deploy 150 additional law enforcement officers, as well as 48 National Guard troops, to patrol Florida’s southern coast. There has already been a steady stream of Haitian illegals attempting to enter Florida illegally since January of 2023, with the Coast Guard intercepting at least 670 vessels, containing approximately 13,500 illegals.

“The message is the last thing you should want to do is get on a boat and think you’re going to come through from any of these islands to get to the state of Florida,” said DeSantis. “The most likely scenario is you’ll be stopped, and you will be returned to your country of origin. It’s a hazardous journey, it’s not worth doing, and we have the resources to continue to keep the people of Florida safe.”

The expected wave of illegals from Haiti adds just one more layer to the ongoing mass migration crisis, with millions of illegals from third-world countries pouring over the southern border due to the Biden Administration’s open-borders approach to immigration policy. Illegals have even come from such distant countries as China and various Middle Eastern countries, highlighting the levels that some foreigners will go to take advantage of the open border.
