Joe Biden managed to mangle a joke about singers Beyoncé and Taylor Swift during the Thanksgiving turkey pardoning ceremony at the White House, Monday.
The annual event fell on Biden’s 81st birthday this year, and his advanced age was very much in evidence as he apparently attempted to go off-script.
This year’s lucky birds hail from Minnesota and Pennsylvania and are named Liberty and Bell.
“Just to get here, Liberty and Bell had to beat some tough odds and competition. They had to work hard to show patience and be willing to travel over 1,000 miles,” Biden began fairly competently before running into trouble. “You could say even this harder than getting a ticket to the Renaissance tour or, or, or … for RipBrittney’s tour, he stammered. “She’s down in — it’s kind of warm in Brazil right now.”
It was not immediately clear what Biden was talking about as Beyoncé’s 2023 Renaissance Tour ended in October and never went to Brazil. Britney Spears’ last tour was in 2018.
It is likely Biden confused Spears with Taylor Swift, who has a performance scheduled for tonight in Rio De Janeiro as part of her “Eras Tour.”

Biden also appeared to misread a joke about the turkeys singing Happy Birthday to him, which could have been funny if delivered properly.
“By the way, it’s my birthday today and they can actually sang birthday to me, Biden said. “I just want you to know, it’s difficult turning 60,” he added, snickering.

Biden “abruptly” left the festivities “half-jogging” his way back inside the White House, according to Republican National Committee X account.

Concerns about Biden’s advanced age and mental acuity have increasingly become a major 2024 election issue for Republicans and Democrats alike.
In a recent New York Times/Siena College poll of battleground states, 71 percent said Biden was “too old” to be president, including 54 percent of his own supporters. Only 39 percent said the same about former President Donald Trump, 77, the current front-runner for the Republican nomination in 2024. Trump is running ahead of Biden in the latest head to head matchups and is also the current favorite in the betting averages, according to RealClearPolitics.
