Saad: People Unlikely to Change ‘Anchored’ Opinions Even if You Drown them with Evidence

In a recent “Counterculture” podcast, professor and author Dr. Gad Saad said that most people are unable to change their positions on issues even if you “drown” them in evidence to the contrary.

“I am amazed at people’s unwillingness to deviate from their original anchored position even if I drown you in evidence to the contrary,” Saad told host Dan Proft. “And so I come into these exchanges into science, into debates, with an open heart, which is, hey, you may alter my position in which case kudos to you, or hopefully I may alter your position.”

“But the reality is most people are walking around all day going la la la. I don’t want to hear anything,” said Saad.

In this episode, Saad and Proft discuss why it’s so hard for people to change their opinions, as well as Saad’s new book, “The Saad Truth About Happiness.”

Saad is a professor of marketing at Concordia University in Montreal, and the former holder of the Concordia University Research Chair in Evolutionary Behavioral Sciences and Darwinian Consumption.

In addition to his most recent book on happiness, Saad is author of several books, including “The Parasitic Mind: How Infectious Ideas Are Killing Common Sense.”

  1. I don’t know, Hillary Clinton was able to change hers. She went from a Goldwater Girl conservative teenager to a rabid Leftist.

  2. She was 17 at the time and teens don’t have their beliefs set in stone. Also her mother was a bit of a libtard.
