New Mexico Governor Draws Backlash over Firearm Executive Order

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (D-N.M.) has garnered widespread criticism over her decision to issue an emergency executive order banning the right to carry firearms in Albuquerque, claiming that gun violence is now a “public health emergency.”

As reported by the New York Post, Grisham’s order temporarily bans any open or concealed carry of firearms in the city for at least 30 days. The 63-year-old Grisham, who was first elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022, was backed in her campaigns by far-left billionaire George Soros, who has repeatedly funded progressive candidates in order to undermine America from within.

“Gun violence is killing between 2 and 3 children every month in NM,” Grisham wrote on Twitter, without providing any evidence, in an attempt to justify her actions. “Every single one of these deaths is unconscionable and they must stop.”

The backlash to Grisham’s decision was swift on social media, with Twitter owner Elon Musk saying that “deliberately violating the Constitution is next-level illegal.” He then asked “how soon can this person be removed from office?”

Former One America News host Graham Ledger said that “not only is this Michelle Lujan Grisham a moron, but she’s also a Marxist through and through.”

Although Grisham declared that the Albuquerque Police Department will be ordered to enforce her order, APD Chief Harold Medina has already publicly stated that he will refuse to do so. Similarly, Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen said he is unsure about enforcing the order due to the obvious constitutional issues it presents, with many pointing out its blatant violation of the rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment.

When asked by a reporter if her order could be considered unconstitutional, Grisham responded by saying “no constitutional right, in my view, is intended to be absolute.”

“I welcome the debate and fight about how to make New Mexicans safer,” she said at a press conference. “I’ve warned everyone that we expect a direct challenge, probably as you’re writing this we’re getting a challenge, and that’s the way it should work.”
