Former President Donald Trump announced Thursday night that he had canceled a scheduled press conference in Bedminster, NJ, where he planned to present a “CONCLUSIVE Report” to the media providing evidence of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.
On Monday, a grand jury in Fulton County indicted Trump and 18 others on charges related to their post-election efforts to expose election fraud in Georgia. Hours later, Trump announced on Truth Social that he would share a “detailed but irrefutable” report next Monday that would completely exonerate him. “Based on the results of this CONCLUSIVE Report, all charges should be dropped against me & others – There will be a complete EXONERATION!” Trump wrote.
In response to Trump’s post, Georgia Republican Governor Brian Kemp pushed back on the claim that the election was rigged: “The 2020 election in Georgia was not stolen,” the governor wrote on X.
“For nearly three years now, anyone with evidence of fraud has failed to come forward – under oath – and prove anything in a court of law,” Kemp added. “Our elections in Georgia are secure, accessible, and fair and will continue to be as long as I am governor. The future of our country is at stake in 2024 and that must be our focus.”
According to multiple reports, Trump’s lawyers talked him out of holding a press conference because it could expose him to further legal consequences.
Former Trump White House lawyer Ty Cobb said: “This is, you know, generating chaos. I mean, frankly, there’s a good chance that whatever document he produces ends up as evidence against him,” Cobb said. “It could even end up as the basis for an obstruction count against the author because it’s likely to be fiction and solely for the purpose of contaminating the jury pool.”
Trump apparently saw the wisdom of this legal advice.
“Rather than releasing the Report on the Rigged & Stolen Georgia 2020 Presidential Election on Monday, my lawyers would prefer putting this, I believe, Irrefutable & Overwhelming evidence of Election Fraud & Irregularities in formal Legal Filings as we fight to dismiss this disgraceful Indictment by a publicity & campaign finance seeking D.A., who sadly presides over a record breaking Murder & Violent Crime area, Atlanta,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Therefore, the News Conference is no longer necessary!”
