Republicans on the House Oversight Committee have vowed to subpoena members of the Biden family, which may include Joe Biden himself.
According to the Washington Free Beacon, Congressman James Comer (R-Ky.), chairman of the Oversight Committee, said in an interview on Thursday that the current investigations “were always going to end with the Bidens” being subpoenaed. But Comer added that the committee still has to “put together a case that would stand up in any court of law in America,” and he thus did not give a timetable for when the subpoenas would be announced.
Congressman Comer warned Republicans against a rushed impeachment of Joe Biden, as the committee is still gathering all the facts regarding allegations of corruption within the Biden family. Most recently, additional revelations by the committee confirmed that the Biden family had received at least $20 million from foreign oligarchs and businesses, including from such countries as Ukraine, Russia, China, Romania, and Kazakhstan.
These reports followed a confidential informant form filed with the FBI, known as an FD-1023, in which an informant claimed that both Joe and Hunter Biden had each received bribes of $5 million from the Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings, in exchange for promised changes to American foreign policy during the elder Biden’s vice presidency.
Furthermore, Hunter’s former business partner Devon Archer testified before Congress that, contrary to Joe Biden’s claims that he never discussed business with his son, the then-vice president had indeed been included on over 20 phone calls between Hunter and his foreign business partners, often as an intimidation tactic.
Comer says that the ongoing investigations into the Bidens has encompassed three “phases:” The first focused on obtaining Hunter’s financial records to confirm overseas transactions; the second dealt with gathering testimonies from former associates and other key witnesses; and the third phase will involve subpoenas for members of the family.
Some Republicans have demanded an expedited impeachment for Joe Biden in the aftermath of his Department of Justice’s latest politically-motivated indictment against former President Donald Trump, which many have called an abuse of power and a deliberate act of election interference intended to disrupt President Trump’s 2024 re-election campaign.
