‘No One Is Above the Law’? Don’t You Believe It

Democrats’ high-minded pretense in response to Donald Trump’s indictment—that “no one is above the law”—is so rich in hypocrisy it is almost awesome to watch them perform with a straight face.

A sampling of some Democratic members of Congress from Southeast Florida, who all read from the same script in the theater of the hypocritically absurd:

  • Representative Jared Moskowitz: “This is not a moment to celebrate. This is a terrible moment for the country. But no one is above the law.”
  • Rep. Lois Frankel, who is Trump’s congresswoman: “No one is above the law in our country, and that includes the former president of the United States.”
  • Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz: “One reason America is a beacon of democracy is the foundational principle that no one—even a former president—is above the law. In this moment, Americans must trust the judicial process, and avoid partisan rancor or interfering in the peaceful administration of justice.”
  • Rep. Frederica Wilson: “Praise God. No one is above the law!”

But none of them really believe that in a host of other areas—which means they don’t believe it at all.

In fact, they believe the opposite.

When rioters were burning and looting American cities in 2020, Democratic politicians were defending or excusing their felonious behavior, Democratic district attorneys were choosing not to prosecute them, and none other than Kamala Harris was promoting schemes to bail them out of jail to continue committing crimes.

Hillary Clinton’s infamous Steele dossier scandal is parallel to the Trump charge, but stronger. She paid a legal firm to hire a former spy to dig up dirt on her political opponent. And she counted it as a legal expense on the books, which is precisely what Trump’s indictment apparently is about—except hers really was about the campaign, whereas Trump’s remains unclear. The only thing that can be said in her defense is that she laundered it through one more level.

Attorney General Merrick Garland’s office has targeted parents at school board meetings as potential terrorists, but is indifferent to Antifa running rampant in some American cities, launching military-style assaults on a new police training facility in Atlanta, and storming state capitol buildings in Tennessee, Texas, and Wisconsin.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg obviously doesn’t believe “no one is above the law.” The Soros-backed D.A. has reduced felonies to misdemeanors and chosen not to prosecute about half of the violent crimes sent to his office. He’s made New York a more dangerous place, but is spending enormous resources to ferret out a bookkeeping dispute.

And let’s just say it: Ray Epps. He was at the U.S. Capitol, on the grounds, and was captured on video doing more to foment an “insurrection” over two days in January 2021 than anyone. But while Iowa grandmas who wandered onto the open lawn of the Capitol and then left have been jailed, charged, and convicted, and others have spent more than a year wasting away in D.C. jails, Epps remains free. Totally equal under the law!

The reality is that an awful lot of people are above the law—they just all happen to be Democrats and leftists or members of Democratic voting blocks.
